Head instructor: Walter Jakimczuk, M. Ed., B.P.H.E.
Over the years I have been exposed to various martial arts, all of which have their strengths and weaknesses. I believe that the martial arts should be a life long pursuit able to withstand the close scrutiny of logic and common sense, as well as being a complete system of self-defense well suited to the realities of combat. Fortunately, I was accepted as a student of then Master Sunny Tang and Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) has exceeded all of my expectations in all of the aforementioned areas.
Ving Tsun is a study in the dynamics of human movement where the most efficient movement, combined with sensitivity training produces a powerful, fast and versatile system. This compact system possesses a simple complexity that astounds with its convincing ability in application. Serious martial artists are continually searching for the most rounded and complete style or system. For me, Ving Tsun is the system of choice, and to which I have decided to dedicate my martial arts career.
The system is based on a series of principles that allow the practitioner to fully express his/her uniqueness as an individual. The subtlety and precision challenge the dedicated practitioner physically, mentally, and also fosters growth in all facets of one's life. Ving Tsun thus becomes a way of viewing life. It provides a strategy not only for fighting but also for dealing with challenges that confront individuals on a daily basis.
It is an honour and a privilege to be associated with Grandmaster Tang who has such a profound knowledge and who is a direct link to the great grandmasters of Ving Tsun. He is a person who willingly shares his knowledge and has elevated the art of Ving Tsun from relative obscurity to one of the fastest growing systems in Canada today.
Never have I been involved in such a system that is so rich in depth, yet so enjoyable to practice. Ving Tsun simply is, truly, a treasure of the martial arts!
Sifu Walter has his Bachelor of Physical and Health Education from Laurentian University in Sudbury and has his Bachelor of Education and Master of Educational Counseling from the University of Ottawa.
In 2014, Walter was honoured with the title Grandmaster of the Sunny Tang family of Ving Tsun. Most recently November 2015, in Philadelphia he was further awarded the title Senior Master within the Moy Yat family.
These honours confirm a lineage with Ving Tsun its precious inheritance. From Ip Man to Moy Yat to Sunny Tang to Walter Jakimczuk.
As a diligent 25 year disciple of Master Sunny Tang and a student of the arts from a young age Walter feels fortunate to have found Ving TSun which encompasses theory and practice into a framework that allows for personal growth.
